Overview

GlideTile is a sliding-tile puzzle game. This policy explains what data is processed when you play, and by whom. The short version: you can play without any account, and the game never asks for your e-mail or phone number. Google services power ads, usage statistics and purchases. Our own game server keeps what online play and friends need, and, from version 1.13, anonymous statistics about how the game is played. From version 1.13 everything the game sends to our server is encrypted. We never sell data.

Data stored on your device only

Your best times, move counts, and local high-score leaderboard entries (including the player name you type in for a new record) are saved locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not uploaded to us or to any server. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

Custom photos

GlideTile lets you choose a photo from your device to use as a puzzle image. This photo is read from your device, used to build the puzzle tiles entirely on your device, and is never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere by us. It is not saved by the app beyond the current game session.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The game shows ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect and process data such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, and ad-interaction events. This processing is governed by Google's own policies:

Where required by law (for example in the EEA/UK), you will be shown a consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) before personalized ads are served, and you may choose non-personalized ads. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device's Google settings (Settings → Google → Ads).

Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

From version 1.4.2, the game uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the game is used in general: how many people open it, how often they come back, and how long a session lasts. For this purpose Google collects and processes data such as an app-instance identifier, your device's advertising ID, device model and operating-system version, country derived from IP address, and usage events (for example, first open and session start). The game does not send your name, email address, photos, or anything you type.

From version 1.5.0 the game also reports a small number of events of its own to the same service: a puzzle was finished (with the board size, the difficulty or the game mode), a game mode was opened (Big Puzzle, 2 Players, My Photo), the "Remove Ads" screen was opened, a purchase was started or completed, and whether an ad was requested, loaded, failed to load or shown. These events carry no names and nothing about your own photos.

From version 1.7.0 the events also say which puzzle was started or left (the picture, the board size, how many moves and seconds), whether the music or the sounds were switched off, which language was chosen, and how the game's short questions were answered. The game may ask you one or two short questions ("How is the game so far?", "Why did you stop this puzzle?"). Answering is optional. Your answer, and one optional line of text if you choose to write it, are sent anonymously with the same service, without your name or account. Numbers and e-mail addresses are removed from that line before it is sent; please do not write personal details in it.

Where a consent form is shown (see above), the choices you make there also apply to these statistics. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device's Google settings.

Purchases (Google Play Billing)

The game offers one optional purchase, "Remove Ads". The purchase is handled entirely by Google Play: we never see or store your payment details. The game only asks Google Play whether this purchase exists on your Google account, and keeps that yes/no answer on your device so ads stay off.

Play with friends (optional)

Playing at a table with friends is optional, and nothing in this section happens unless you open "Play with friends". When you do, the game signs you in with Google Play Games and Firebase Authentication (both by Google). Through them we receive your Play Games player name and an account identifier. Your player name is shown to the other players at your table.

Our game server (a "relay", run by us on our own computer and on rented machines at Oracle Cloud and Google Cloud) passes the moves between the players of a table; the moves and the state of a table are held only in memory while the table is open. To run online play, friends and leagues, the server also keeps on disk: your account identifier, your Play Games player identifier and player name, your friends in the game (and, if you allow it in Play Games, which of your Play Games friends also play), the people you recently played with, a notification token so a friend's invitation can reach you, the language of the game, and your league and rating. If you share the game, the link carries a short code; when a friend installs from it, the server records that the friend joined by your code, so both of you get the coins. The server sees your IP address while you are connected, to deliver the game's messages and to limit abuse.

Google keeps a sign-in record for your account in Firebase Authentication (the account identifier and when you signed in). You can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to the address below. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Anonymous game statistics (from version 1.13)

To see which parts of the game work and where players stop, the game creates a random number on your phone. It is not your name, your account, your advertising ID or your phone's serial number, and a new one is made if you reinstall the game. With it the game sends to our server: the day the game was first opened, each day it is opened, the game's events (a puzzle was started, finished or left, with the game mode, board size, moves, seconds and win or loss; a share network was chosen; a league changed; a purchase was completed) and your answers to the game's short questions with how long the game had been open. These statistics are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted. We cannot tie them to you; uninstalling the game ends them.

Encryption

From version 1.13 every message between the game and our server is encrypted on your phone (keys made fresh each time the game starts, sealed with our server's public key, AES-256 with a signature), so only our server can read it. Google's services and our picture site are reached over HTTPS.

Pictures downloaded from our site

The Picture of the Day images and videos, and a small file that tells the game whether a newer version exists, are downloaded from our site, which is hosted on GitHub Pages. As with any website, the hosting provider receives your IP address when these files are requested. No other information about you is sent with these requests.

Children

GlideTile is not directed at children under 13, and is rated accordingly on Google Play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, contact us and we will address it.

Data sharing and selling

We do not sell personal data. We do not share data with any third party, other than showing your player name to the players at your own table. The Google services and the site hosting described above receive the data listed in their sections and operate under their own policies.

Data retention and deletion

Online-play data on our server (account and Play Games identifiers, player name, friends, recent players, notification token, language, league and rating, invitation codes) is deleted on request, and automatically when the account has not played online for 90 days; the sign-in record at Firebase Authentication is deleted after 90 days without a sign-in. Anonymous game statistics are kept for up to 90 days. If you signed in to play with friends, Google holds a sign-in record for us in Firebase Authentication; we delete it on request. Usage statistics are held by Google Analytics, in aggregated or pseudonymous form, for a limited period set by that service. Local data (best times, leaderboard entries, any name you typed in) is deleted when you uninstall the app.

How to delete your data (GlideTile, by Yehuda P.)

To request deletion: send an email to yehuda.g.p@gmail.com with the subject "GlideTile - delete my data", from the Google account you play with, or include your Play Games player name. We delete within 30 days and confirm by email.

What is deleted: the sign-in record of your account in Firebase Authentication (the account identifier and the sign-in dates), and everything our server keeps for that account: player name, Play Games identifier, friends, recent players, notification token, language, league and rating, and invitation codes. This exists only if you opened "Play with friends".

What we do not hold, so cannot delete: your scores, coins and settings are stored only on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data. Purchases are kept by Google Play under your Google account. Usage statistics are held by Google Analytics in pseudonymous form for a limited period.

Changes to this policy

When the game starts processing new data, this page is updated before that version is released, and the "last updated" date changes.
